We have a Linotronic 260 which works great.

We drive it with a Torrent ( Harliquin) Rip which is loaded on
WindowsNT and send and print files to it from our Macs and our PCs
running Windows 98.

Recently we added a new PC and a new Mac. Mac works fine but the PC
wtih XP operating system will not print to the Lino. We used the same
drivers that we had on Win98 and I am not aware of any new ones - does
anybody know where we can get XP drivers for Linotrons? Is there a
"workaround" for this? Thanks HLR

It is impossible to use drivers for Windows 9x systems on Windows NT
systems. But isn't there a driver already under ADD PRINTER?

By the way Aandi, we use "Quite Imposing Plus" on our Win98's - an
excellent program - will it run on the XP? Do I have to buy a new
license or install a new program???

You should make sure you have the latest version, but Quite Imposing
Plus is compatible with Acrobat 4-6 and Windows 95-XP.

the old lino "drivers" do not work right under W2K or XP. The L330, for
instance, invokes a server error (even when trying to distill). The L530/560
sets something in the file that the Harlequin rip cannot overide so if the
PS is positive RREU (as is usual) the Hqn cannot make it negative RREU.

Some of these things can be resolved by hacking the PPD. Or even editing the
PS.

But why bother? These are level 1 PPDs. AND since you are using a software
rip you're not going to be affecting the rip configuration with the PS (as
was necessary with the Rip3 or watever you used to use).

To put it other words, there is absolutely no need to use a "driver"
configured for the recorder when the rip driving that recorder is not going
to pay the slightest attention to such configuration issues. Besides, W2K
and XP's PS driver does not support PS level 1 devices.

Use a PPD appropriate for the rip you are using (look on your rip's CD). Or
use the Distiller PPD.

I'll try installing the "printer" using a Distiller PPD - though I'm
a little unclear exactly how to.

See we go to "add Printer" - navigate to the particuar - in our case
we use the 1693 and 2540 dpi film printer setup on the net work -
each one is a separate "printer" on the Torrent - we've got other
printers too like one that automatically separates color files - all
defined by the "page settup" on the Torrent.

Before when we did this using the Lino 530v52.3 driver which we have
found works well - the Torrent would just "beep" every 30 or 40
seconds. Thanks for your replies - HLR
